Mixed-Flow Dryer
Modern agricultural applications rely on mixed-flow dryers because they dry faster, more evenly and with fewer damage risks. These continuous flow systems pass grain through alternating ducts and expose kernels to repeated heating and cooling cycles.
Rather than using a single harsh blast, a continuous flow grain dryer uses the vacuum cooling efficiency found in tower dryers to achieve the high grain quality you’d expect from a mixed-flow dryer. As a result, you will receive the quality grain you need using less fuel with each bushel. Because there are no screens to clean, you’ll also have less maintenance to worry about while achieving capacity and efficiency.
Using mixed-flow dryers enables you to maintain better grain quality, lower storage risks and maximize value. These dryers can also handle diverse crops and support heat recovery, allowing you to harvest earlier, store safer and meet premium markets.
Mixed-Flow Dryer Models
The unique process of mixed-flow dryers results in tighter moisture distribution, higher test weights, fewer stress cracks and better performance for seed or milling operations. These dryers minimize over-drying and shrinking, reduce spoilage and improve reliability.
These features and designs allow mixed-flow dryers to offer many advantages, including:
- Fuel efficiency: The mixed-flow grain dryer has a lower fuel consumption for each bushel than cross-flow dryers.
- Better grain: Since the mixed-flow dryer has longer grain retention, it results in higher grain quality and test weight.
- Minimal maintenance: There is a small amount of cleaning required during the season to maintain the dryer’s capacity and efficiency.
- Less horsepower: The mixed-flow dryer has less fan horsepower for the same capacity as cross-flow dryers.
At TAM Systems, we offer two mixed-flow grain dryer models:
Chief Dryer
The Chief dryer is a continuous grain flow system made to your custom specifications to provide the best drying performance for your grain. This dryer combines a gentle mixed-flow core and customizable tower design for lower kernel stress and uniform moisture. As an environmentally considerate system, it will take into account your unique location factors, including air quality, noise, color, dust and height.
Screenless ducting promotes repeated heat and cool cycles to protect test weights and minimize over-drying. This dryer offers precise temperature and airflow control to ensure optimal drying. You can use the touch-screen component to program each installation and control the elevators, dryer and auxiliary gates and conveyors. Integrated touch-screens also allow you to create crop-specific recipes and complete remote monitoring for maximum efficiency.
The Chief dryer leverages a durable galvanized steel exterior and modular design that is easy to install. With its in-and-out clean design, the Chief dryer has minimal cleaning and maintenance requirements. The lack of perforated screens results in fewer cleaning stoppages, and smart controls and alerts enable quick maintenance to prevent misuse that causes wear. Additionally, you can opt for dust and noise packages to further minimize your maintenance requirements.
The precise temperature and airflow control and gentle mixed-flow design make the Chief dryer suitable for commodities such as:
- Corn and specialty corn.
- Sunflower.
- Soybean.
- Feed and seed wheat.
- Sorghum/milo.
- Edible beans.
- Canola.
Caldwell Dryer
The Caldwell dryer is also a continuous flow dryer. This durable system has a modular construction, resulting in cost savings for assembly. After installation, it will provide 40 to 45 cubic feet per minute (cfm) of air per bushel, which is energy-efficient. The air dries the grain uniformly with less dispersion of the outlet grain moisture.
This dryer is configurable as full-heat or heat-and-cool. You can also opt for heat-recovery packages to adapt your energy strategy while minimizing over-drying. Get higher-quality grain with a better test weight and storability with the Dryer Master® technology that provides accurate drying information. This technology closes the loop with continuous moisture sensing and automatic burner/fan control to consistently hit target moisture, despite changes in weather or incoming grain.
The Caldwell dryer also scales to fit your needs. Modular sections enable you to move from farm-scale operations to commercial throughput. Advanced controls and reliable performance make this dryer suitable for commodities, including:
- Rice.
- Corn.
- Soybeans.
- Wheat.
